America Has Chance to Win First World Championship Medal
The 2011 IAAF World Championships are will begin on Saturday, August 27th in Daegu, South Korea. The United States will send four hammer throwers: two men and two women. The men, Kibwé Johnson and Michael Mai, start the action on Saturday with the qualifying round. The top twelve throwers will advance to Monday’s final. Kibwé is currently has the third best mark in 2011 among all of the entrants and has a chance to become the first American to ever win a medal in the hammer throw at the World Championships. Michael Mai is seeded 29th out of 36 competitors, but a good throw could quickly move him up the rankings in a packed field.
